چکیده
This paper shows a comparison between experiments carried out in laboratory-scale sandbox where the migration of dense nonaqueous phase liquid (DNAPL), hydrofluoroether (HFE-7100), saturated porous medium was investigated, and validation performed using high-resolution shock-capturing numerical simulations to resolve nonlinear governing coupled partial differential equations three-phase immiscible fluid flow. The contaminant released colored as tracer for fixed time pressures different from atmospheric one into zone, first by column laboratory experiment, then sandbox-scale example with hydraulic gradient. A digital image analysis procedure used determine saturation distribution during its migration. These results are compared values determined DNAPL similar media through simulation. They show good agreement experimental also that CactusHydro can follow plume evolution very precisely be evaluate effects environmental impacts deriving leaks zones.

Noninvasive monitoring of DNAPL migration through a saturated porous medium using electrical impedance tomography.
Electrical impedance tomography (EIT) was used to monitor the movement of a fluorinated hydrocarbon dense nonaqueous phase liquid (DNAPL) through a saturated porous medium within a laboratory column. Impedance measurements were made using a horizontal plane of 12 electrodes positioned at regular intervals around the centre of the column. A 2D inversion algorithm, which incorporated the cylindri...
متن کاملNumerical Model for Saturated-Unsaturated Flow in Deformable Porous Media
An integrated finite difference algorithm is presented for numerically solving the governing equation of saturated-unsaturated flow in deformable porous media. In recognition that stability of the explicit equation is a local phenomenon a mixed explicit-implicit procedure is used for marching in the time domain. In this scheme the explicit changes in potential are first computed for all element...
متن کاملMulti-scale high-performance fluid flow: Simulations through porous media
In petroleum production and engineering, the subsurface formation that surrounds the well screen gets, in many cases, deteriorated with time in relation to its hydraulic conductivity. As a consequence, well production declines with time and this limits to a large extent its efficiency. Since well installation is a major production operation that usually requires a large capital, it is always im...
متن کاملStochastic pore-scale growth models of DNAPL migration in porous media
Stochastic models that account for a wide range of pore-scale eects are discussed in the context of two-phase, immiscible displacement problems in natural porous media. We focus on migration of dense, nonaqueous phase liquids (DNAPLs) through watersaturated geological materials. DNAPL movement is governed by buoyancy, capillary, and viscous forces, as well as by the details of the porous mediu...
